Rock The Park 2026 was a festival no one will soon forget. What should have been four incredible nights of live music quickly turned into uncertainty as wildfire smoke drifted into the London area. At no fault of Rock The Park at all, day 1, the smoke became noticeably thicker, air quality deteriorated rapidly, and organizers, band management, and even the city were faced with a difficult, but necessary decision. With the safety of the concertgoers, artists, staff and crew as top priority, the first two nights of the festival were cancelled.

It was a heartbreaking decision for everyone involved. Fans who had been counting down the days, photographers eager to capture another incredible year, event staff who had spent months preparing, and the artists themselves all shared the same disappointment. While no one wanted to see the festival interrupted, everyone understood that public safety had to come first.

Fortunately, by the third day, conditions had improved enough for the festival to move ahead. Although a light haze still lingered over the city, the atmosphere inside Harris Park quickly shifted from disappointed to celebration. Thousands of fans packed the grounds for an unforgettable night featuring: Nelly, Fat Joe, Shaggy, OMI and Afroman, proving that the spirit of Rock The Park was alive and well.

Then came the final day. The one I had been waiting for. Metal night brought together an incredible line up, one that metal fans have been screaming for over the last few years. The Dan Band ( who brought a fantastic, uplifting contrast to the night with hilarious dance moves and choreography, and cover songs ), Ice Nine Kills, I Prevail and Canadian Rock legends Three Days Grace. From the moment the gates opened, there was an unmistakable energy in the air. Fans running full speed through the gates to get to the front, filling the park wearing the bands merch, and eagerly waiting for each performance. Circle pits formed, crowd surfers poured over the barricades where I was photographing, making sure to keep an eye out for falling people as I worked through other photographers and security to get the shots, thousands of voices sang along to every song. Every band delivered an unforgettable performance, and from a photographer’s perspective, it was one to the most exciting nights I’ve had the opportunity to capture.

Adding to the anticipation, the weather kept everyone on edge throughout the evening. After everything that had happened earlier in the week, the sight of dark clouds moving toward the park had many wondering if Mother Nature had one more surprise in store.. I mean.. it isn’t Rock The Park without a down Pour! Thankfully, the winds shifted, the store passed around the festival, and not a single drop of rain fell during the performances. Instead, fans were treated to a perfect summer evening with conformable temps, incredible performances, and an electric atmosphere that made Rock The Park’s final night feel like a celebration of live music itself.

ICE NINE KILLS: A horror movie brought to live, concert style.

As photographers\videographers, we gathered backstage about ten minutes before Ice Nine Kills were set to take the stage. Music filled the air as we chatted and made our final camera checks, knowing that the moment the background music stopped, it was time to move. Suddenly, everything went quiet. A strange, eerie carnival style soundtrack began playing through the speakers, and within seconds the crowd erupted. The anticipation instantly turned into excitement as thousands of fans roared.

I had already made my way into the photo pit, positioning myself beside one of the massive speaker stacks just off to the side of the main microphone stage front. The bassist was the first to walk out, sending the audience into a frenzy. Standing just behind me, one fan screamed, “ Oh My God, I love you! I can’t believe this is happening!”. Moments later, the rest of the band stormed the stage, and from the very first note it was absolute chaos, in the best possible way. Ice Nine Kills sounded incredibly tight, delivering crushing, heavy riffs and powerful vocals while commanding every inch of stage. Dressing in their signature suits, they performed with relentless energy before gradually shedding layers as the intensity of the show built. Throughout the crowd, fans proudly wore white dress shirts and suspenders in tribute to Spencer Charnas’ iconic look, making it clear just how passionate the Ice Nine Kills fanbase is.

What truly seperates Ice Nine Kills from almost every other live band is their theatrical production. Watching them perform felt less like attending a concert and more like witnessing a live horror film unfold on stage. Actors appeared throughout the set armed with axes, knives and roaring chainsaws, while fake police officers attempted to restrain blood-soaked characters who inevitably escaped. One unforgettable scene featured a man in a straitjacket and mask being wheeled onto the stage before breaking free and attacking one of the officers, complete with convincing special effects that had fake blood spraying all over.

The horror only escalated from there. A masked executioner stalked ‘victims’ with chainsaws and axes, blood-covered limbs and severed heads became props during songs, one particularly gruesome scene featured a blood soaked victim in a wheelchair as Spencer Charnas emerged wearing a butcher’s apron and wielding an oversized meat cleaver. Bursts of CO2 blasted into the air while every song unfolded like the next chapter of a horror story. There was always something happening, making every second in the photo pit another opportunity to capture a dramatic moment.

In all my years photographing live concerts, I can honestly say I’ve never experienced a performance quite like Ice Nine Kills. With all that was going on it could easily hurt the quality of the music … but let me tell you… this production is so well put together, the music DOES NOT, suffer even a little bit.. all senses are firing at once and everything is dead on! Their combination of outstanding musicianship, cinematic storytelling, and theatrical stage production created one of the most visually spectacular shows i’ve never photographed.

I Prevail: Fire, Fury & Unstoppable Energy

After the theatrical spectacle of Ice Nine Kills, I Prevail took the stage and immediately shifted the atmosphere into overdrive. This was one of the performances I had been looking forward to the most, and finally getting the opportunity to photograph them made the experience even more memorable. From the moment they launched into their opening song, it was clear why they have earned a reputation as one of the most electrifying live ads in modern metal. Their sound was incredibly tight, crushingly heavy, and every bit as powerful as their studio recordings.

The band’s energy was relentless. Flames erupted from the stage through the set, adding an incredible visual element that photographers dream about. Every burst of fire lit up the stage, creating dramatic moments that perfectly matched the intensity of the music. Whether I was shooting up close with my telephoto lens or switching to an ultra-wide perspective to capture the entire stage, the combination of pyro, lighting, and the massive crowd made from some of my favourite photographs of the night.

The Audience fed off every second of the performance. At one point, frontman Eric Vanlerberghe called out for a circle pit, and within moments a huge section of the crowd opened up before exploding into controlled chaos. Crowdsurfers poured over the barricade one after another, keeping security constantly on their toes, as well as all of us photographers who were trying to get shots while not having bodies falling onto us and our gear lol. I found myself repeatedly glancing over my shoulder to avoid being hit by fans dropping from the crowd top.

Despite the intensity, the band also showed a fun, lighthearted side. Between songs there was plenty of banter, especially between Eric and guitarist Dylan Bowman. Eric joked that he never lets Dylan speak, and when he finally let him Dylan’s hilarious and completely random comments had both the band and crowd laughing. Those memo nest of humour balanced perfectly with the crushing heaviness of the music and made the performance feel even more genuine.

Musically, I Prevail were phenomenal. The Contrast between Clean Melodic vocals and Powerful screams gave every song incredible depth and emotion. Combined with thunderous drums, crushing guitar riffs, and an audience singing every word, their set was on of the standout performances of Rock The Park 2026. It was everything I had hoped it would be, and from behind the camera, it was an absolute thrill to photograph.

Three Days Grace: A Homegrown Canadian Rock Celebration.

After two incredible performances from Ice Nine Kills and I Prevail, it was time for the headliners to take the stage. While every band at Rock the Park 2026 delivered an unforgettable performance, there was something different in the air when Three Days Grace stepped out. This was a band was a band that held a special place in the hearts of so many people in that crowd. As a Canadian band with deep roots not far from London, Ontario, their connection with the fans felt incredibly strong from the very first note.

Although photographers were not permitted to shoot the opening song, it was still an incredible experience being able to watch from the side of the the stage and take in their performance before heading into the pit. It gave us a chance to see how the band moved, interacted with each other, and commanded the massive Rock The Park stage. One the first song ended, photographers rushed into position for songs two and three. While we normally get three songs to photograph, this night we were given two, but honestly, with the amount of energy happening on stage, those two songs were more than enough to capture some great imagery.

From the moment the cameras cam out, Three Days Grace brought everything they had. The band was constantly moving, filling the stage with energy and giving the crowd exactly what they came to see. Hearing one of their biggest hits so early in the set was an incredible moment, with thousands of fans instantly recognizing every word and singing along. The balance between the two vocalists was powerful, with their voices complementing each other perfectly as they traded back and forth throughout the performance.

Visually, they were incredible to photography. The entire band brought an intensity that translated perfectly through the camera. The stage was alive with movement, and every member was completely locked into the performance. One of the standout moments was watching the band’s newer singer, Matt Walst, leaning over the edge of the stage and reaching out toward the crowd, giving the finger.. iconic shot! it created one of those moments of power and rebellion.

Another memorable moment of the night happened when Matt brought his son up on stage during the performance. While we weren’t able to photograph that moment as it happened outside of the first few songs, it was still a good one to witness. Earlier backstage when the band first took to the stage, Matt’s son had come out to see the band perform their first song and proudly yelled “ Matt Walst is MY dad! “ hahah such a proud little dude.

By the end of the night, it was clear that Three Days Grace had delivered exactly what everyone hoped for. The crowd was absolutely electric, and the volume of thousands of fans singing along may have been the loudest moment of the entire festival. They weren’t just closing out Rock The Park 2026, they were celebrating the connection between a legendary Canadian rock band and the fans who have supported them for years.

The Dan Band: Comedy, Chaos & The Perfect Opening Act.

Opening a night of heavy music with a comedy cover band might sound like an unusual choice, BUT, The Dan Band proved exactly why they deserved to be there. Best known by many fans for their appearances in movies like “ The Hangover “ & “ Old School “, The Dan Band has built their reputation around one thing - taking familiar songs and turning them into a hilarious, high-energy performance unlike anything else.

From the moment they stepped on stage, it was obvious this was going to be different. Their combination of comedy, choreography, and incredible musicianship had the entire crowd laughing. While Dan delivered the vocals and chaos up front, the other two members of the band somehow maintained completely straight faces while performing some of the most ridiculous routines imaginable. From over-the-top dance moves to outrageous props and perfectly timed comedy, their performance was nonstop entertainment.

What made it even better was that behind all the comedy, they were genuinely talented musicians. With a DJ spinning the tracks live on stage and the band delivering their unique takes on popular songs, they brought a completely different energy to a festival lineup filled with metal and rock. The contrast was perfect, and the crowd quickly went from wondering why a comedy band was opening the night to fully embracing every moment.

Before the show, there had been plenty of discussion online about the delayed start time due to the weather concerns, with some fans hoping The Dan Band would get cancelled so Ice Nine Kills could have their full set. Once The Dan Band hit the stage, that opinion quickly change. The laughter coming from the crowd said it all. They won everyone over, including the photographers in the pit. I found myself laughing while trying to capture their ridiculous and unforgettable performance.

The Dan Band brought something completely different to Rock The Park 2026, and honestly, that’s exactly what made them such a memorable part of the night. They didn’t just open the show, they set the tone for an evening filled with unforgettable moments, and a whole lot of fun!
